Welcome to The
Barrax Empire, the web's 2D space shooter database.
From the mid eighties to the early nineties, a lot
of classic "space shoot-em-up" games were released. These games
didn't have any 3D features - they were simple 2D shoot-em-ups like
"R-Type", where you have to control your little starship though
the levels, fishing for power-ups to get enough strengh for the
level's end-boss.
A lot of things have changed since then - the good
old Commodore 64, the great Amiga and all the old consoles like
Genesis and (S)NES are gone. With the exception of Sony's PlayStation
and a few good Emulators, there haven't been any replacements for
these fine machines. Sure, there's the PC, but the most shoot-em-ups
on a PC platform are shareware games, and not what we consider to
be good shoot-em-ups.
It's hard to find something new, although from time
to time there have been some new releases for the PSX, which we've
enjoyed a lot. We hope that there will be a few shoot-em-ups for
the newer consoles soon. This website should help you to find out
about new releases. It also includes the classic shoot-em-ups in
their latest version. We'll try to get the page updated as soon
as possible. If we've missed something, or if you have any informations,
questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to send us an eMail
(jpmaverick
or Zynaps).
